Technology: The Present & Future of Political Action in Africa
The 6th edition of this conference will be held in Lagos, Nigeria on the 28th of November 2024. The conference will examine technology’s influence on political action in Africa, addressing both the demand and supply sides of governance. It presents an opportunity to explore the impact of new media tools, including social media platforms like TikTok, as well as emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). The discussions will evaluate the positive and negative effects of these technological advancements on political engagement and governance throughout the continent.
New media platforms, particularly social media, have become integral to Africa’s political landscape. Both the supply side of governance (represented by governments, political parties, and politicians) and the demand side (comprising civil society and citizens) utilize these platforms to influence the governance process. Activities span a wide range, from citizen and civil society advocacy and protests to government-led policy formulation, communication, and implementation.
